The Colombian Superintendent of Companies is scheduled to appear before the United Nation’s General Assembly, to present the results of his work as President of the UNCITRAL
- On October 19th the Superintendent will discuss the current state of International Trade Law in the world
- In addition, a detailed report in connection with the evolution of important projects regarding Small and Medium Entreprises, online Dispute Resolution, E-Commerce, Insolvency of Corporations, Secured Transactions and Arbitration Proceedings will be analyzed by the Assembly's Sixth Committee.
New York, October 18th, 2015. On Monday, October 19th, the Colombian Superintendent of Companies, Francisco Reyes Villamizar, is scheduled to appear before the Sixth Committee of the General Assembly of the United Nations in New York to present a detailed report in connection with his tenure as President of the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law – UNCITRAL.
Mr. Reyes Villamizar´s report includes, among other relevant topics, the development of ongoing important projects related to:
o Small and Medium-Sized Companies
o Online Dispute Resolution
o E-commerce
o Insolvency of Corporations
o Secured Transactions, and
o Arbitration Proceedings
During the Sixth Committee’s meeting, in which delegates from countries representing all members of the United Nations will be present, the Superintendent will provide information concerning the future scope of the work conducted at the UNCITRAL, and the importance of the technical assistance it provides to the UN countries.
Mr. Reyes Villamizar will also speak about the active coordination existing between the UNCITRAL and other international organizations, such as The Hague Conference on Private International Law and UNIDROIT.
In addition, the Superintendent will stress the importance of the UNCITRAL´s mandate with regard to the promotion of the Rule of Law, both at the national and international levels.
Likewise, he will refer to the importance of the UNCITRAL work in the development of peace and stability in the world through the harmonization and modernization of International Trade Law.
Furthermore, he will highlight that during the last five decades the UNCITRAL and its groups have developed highly efficient working methods, and have set up a culture of inclusive negotiation that has allowed for the promotion of Model Laws, International Conventions and other legal instruments aimed at the improvement of the international business climate.
In the same Committee´s session, he will discuss the relevance of the methods developed by the Commission in order to achieve a uniform interpretation of the multiple legal instruments that have been prepared since the creation of the UNCITRAL in 1966
